Our professional quality watercolours are supplied in 15ml glass jars because, the watercolour’s wet mass tone can be seen through the walls of the jar and the colour can be easily transferred from the jar to the palette with a palette knife. But more importantly, there is no need for unnecessary additives or formulation changes to make processing in our colour manufacturing workshop easier. Thus, allowing the watercolour made by A J Ludlow, to be at the highest pigment concentration and so, the pigments’ unique properties are uncompromised. Anything less would be at odds with the brilliance and performance demanded of a professional quality watercolour range.

Each one of the watercolours has a different consistency; some are fluid, whilst others are structured, but every colour is easily transferred to the watercolour palette. As with all the Professional Watercolours from A J Ludlow, once water is added, they all have excellent flow and are a joy to paint with.

Most of the pigments used in the A J Ludlow Professional Watercolour range are traditional, of which many are mixed metal oxides. Some pigments are relatively heavy and have a natural tendency to separate slightly on standing in the jar. If this occurs it is not a problem, just stir the watercolour gently in the jar with a clean palette knife until the watercolour is fully homogeneous again.
