A J Ludlow Collage Watercolour Medium

Collage Medium is just one of the Watercolour Mediums to complement the A J Ludlow Professional Watercolour range. Made in the UK using the same fine quality materials we use to make our watercolours; this medium has been created to give an additional dimension and creativity to the artist.

Our collage medium is used to fix mixed media to the watercolour work and allow over painting with watercolour.

It can be used pure or mixed with watercolour on the painting. The mixed media items can be scattered on the surface of the medium or pressed into the wet medium. The nature of the dried medium is such that it allows the collage to be painted over with watercolour.

In the watercolour based mixed media painting above, small ceramic beads were fixed to the paper surface using collage medium, for a textured look. In the lower left-hand corner, a small piece of aluminium foil has been glued in place showing how versatile the collage medium can be.

An example of using the A J Ludlow Collage Medium in a mixed media watercolour painting: In the watercolour based mixed media painting below of a girl enjoying a day at the beach, fine sand has been mixed with collage medium and applied to the painting, in order to give the beach a natural textured look and feel. In the sea area, collage medium was painted in strips and mirrored glass particles were sprinkled on to the wet medium. Once dry the effect was of the sun reflecting off the sea.
