Before use for the first time, it is important to soak the nib in boiling water to remove its protective coating.
Formed in 1827 and also based in Birmingham, Joseph Gillott was one of the pioneers of mass steel pen nib manufacturing. Famous for their artist drawing and mapping nibs, they amalgamated with British pens in 1969, who also owned the William Mitchell brand at the time. Both William Mitchell and Joseph Gillott, are now trading as William Mitchell (calligraphy) Ltd.
